ARE YOU READY TO DECLARE "NO MORE PROCRASINATING"?
because the Future is Now! for adults concerned about the future of their siblings with disabilities

Experience this ALL NEW 2-part workshop on
Saturday, JANUARY 28, 2012
8:30 AM-12:30 PM
and
Saturday, February 25, 2012
8:30 AM-12:30 PM

Future is Now! offers practical help and information for brothers and sisters concerned about their siblings with disabilities. This 2-part program invites siblings and any family members they choose to attend with them, including their sibling with disabilities.

Part #1 (Jan. 28) - Getting started is the most important, and most challenging step in planning. At this first workshop, you'll meet other siblings like you who may have put it off, but have experienced the peace of mind of planning and seeing results. They'll share their successes and challenges and give you tips from their experiences. You'll also get tools for future planning that will help you get started getting the information you need. You'll meet local experts to help you on topics such as housing, work, leisure, finances and legal concerns. And even discuss ideas to help with the sometimes difficult conversations with parents, siblings and others.

Siblings with disabilities attending will work on their future planning, too, by constructing a "Its All About Me" book with help from Arc Fox Cities staff.

Between workshops, you will be equipped with worksheets and a plan to get your future planning journey underway.

Part #2 (Feb. 25)- Making It All Happen takes time, information, and a circle of support for not only the person with disabilities, but you as their sibling. This session will be "All About You" and making progress on the steps you and your sibling determine are most important for a promising future.

Both workshops include a delicious lunch and time to network with other siblings, family members and professionals.
HOW TO REGISTER

For more information or to register for Future is Now! workshops, just call 920-968-1742 or email us at fvssn@fvssn.org. You will then be mailed registration materials and directions.

Future Planning is Important

Planning for the future is an important task for any adult as they grow older and life changes. But for those who have developmental disabilities or long-term illnesses, it is even more important.

Without adequate plans in place, adults with disabilities often face disruptive transitions when families can no longer provide care, endure emergency placements in inappropriate settings and suffer through inadequate financial and legal safeguards, all of which place a strain on siblings and other relatives.

Future is Now! has one main goal

The main goal is to help siblings and other family members complete a Letter of Intent. When completed, participants will have a written document which describes their sibling's desired future living arrangement, community role, and lifestyle preferences. The Letter of Intent is a written plan that includes practical directions and information for maintaining continuity in their sibling's daily life and needed supports to achieve these outcomes. Some call this peace of mind.

But if you expect sessions to be all work and no fun...you might be surprised at all the laughter. Planning is just more fun with others who understand.

Each workshop includes a variety of activities, including videos, local area experts with information on relevant topics, large and small group discussions. Sessions are facilitated by FVSSN and Arc Fox Cities staff, along with siblings who have completed the Future is Now! series.

Each participant receives materials the will help participants and their family members collect information between sessions, discuss important issues and successfully move through the planning process to save you time and money and reach your goals.

Thanks to grant from the Mielke Family Foundation, we are able to offer this program for a very affordable cost. For a one-time donation of $75 per family (regardless of how many attend with you), participants may attend the January/February workshops and return to as many Future is Now! sessions offered by the Fox Valley Sibling Support Network as they wish at no additional charge.

Start the New Year with a plan
If you have been putting off tackling issues that are necessary to help secure a future plan for your sibling with disabilities, sign up now for Future is Now! Not only will you get important information from local resources, but you'll meet other siblings who have worked on plans and others who can share their experiences. In the end, you gain knowledge and support to move forward.
